Schlepping Made Eco-Chic

With Earth Day a mere two days away, it’s time to start reflecting on the little things that make the world great, as well as those things that we could do to make the world a better place. With the recent influx of the green movement into the world of fashion, a rash of homely canvas totes and cheap recyclable shopping bags has flooded the market. However, nobody ever said that caring about the environment had to be unfashionable…did they?

If you want to make a difference (and make a statement while you’re at it) check out Rebecca Pearcy’s line of sustainable textiles, totes and accessories, available online may 1.

FENDI Kids Fashion Show

Last week, FENDI held a fashion show at their flagship store to celebrate the domestic launch of their first kids collection. Rather than gaunt, angry looking models strutting down the runway though, it was a bevy of adorable kids looking unnervingly grown up and sophisticated in their designer duds. But, you know what they say, “models (?)— they grow up so quickly nowadays.”

Will x Tribeca Film Festival from Will Leather Goods on Vimeo.

WILL Leather Goods and the making of the official Tribeca Film Festival tote.

Filmed and directed by San Francisco filmmaker Sean Desmond (Tenderloin Project), this short film is a behind scene look at the design, production and expert craftsmanship behind the WILL Leather Good’s exclusive tote bag designed for the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. With founder and President William Alder at the helm, its a cinematic journey of the commemorative product from concept to competition. Filmed on location in El Paso, Texas, the mini-documentary was produced as a testament to a long lost art of handcrafted goods in today’s modern world.

Bust out your jorts and step right up! Come and see the best of Coachella “street” style as captured by the venerable Mr. Newton for Harper’s Bazaar. Of Brooklyn fame, the black-capped blogger has taken his act to Palm Springs to snap the leggy ladies of the music festival we all wish we were at. With temperatures flirting with 100, I can’t help but wonder how everyone manages to keep it together, let alone look like they just stepped out of the pages of Nylon.

For more of Mr. Newton’s street style musings, check out his website here or his work for Bazaar here.
